At least once a month I get stopped to talk about my electric car, usually as I plug-in to charge but sometimes after parking. People want to know what it’s ‘really like’.

This week was such a time, I parked up at the local supermarket and was approached by a chap wanting to know my thoughts on driving electric.

Having driven electric for almost 2 years I was more than happy to offer my opinion and talk about the many benefits of driving electric.

In Milton Keynes electric car drivers get free parking in the city and there is a vast infrastructure of charge points available.

We also discussed the more general benefits including the potentially huge cost savings, the wider infrastructure and the different models available including plug-in hybrids and he remarked about the instant acceleration you get from electric cars. This made me chuckle, as indeed this is one of the most enjoyable and fun aspects of driving electric.

In all, we talked for a good 20 minutes, with lots of nods and raised eyebrows and more questions which I happily answered; this is typical of these types of encounters and for some part I have it almost mentally scripted. We parted and he thanked me for my time.

With these types of ‘off the cuff’ chats happening more and more it’s very clear that people are no longer viewing electric vehicles as a fad but more with intrigue, asking themselves if electric could be a viable option for their next car. More often than not the answer seems to be a resounding ‘yes’.

I’m sure I’m not the only electric car driver this happens to, and it is a joy to know that we are spreading the word, making the world that bit cleaner & greener, whilst educating others in this remarkable motoring technology.
