New survey from across 18 countries shows widespread satisfaction with EV purchases.

new survey from the Global EV Alliance, an international non-profit network of 64 national electric vehicle driver’s associations, found that 92 percent of EV owners, if they had to replace their EV tomorrow, would purchase another EV. The survey, which reached more than 23,000 EV owners from across 18 different countries, found that four percent would replace their EV with a plug-in hybrid, and just one percent would opt for a gas-powered car.

The survey also examined the reasons why owners originally purchased an electric vehicle. While many drivers noted the environmental benefits, the biggest reason behind EV purchases was the lower operating costs. Other reasons like good driveability, less noise, and lower maintenance costs also convinced respondents to get an EV.

The EV owners were also asked about disadvantages of owning an electric vehicle. Roughly 40 percent of EV owners claimed there are no disadvantages to owning an electric vehicle. For those who identified issues with EVs, they noted the time required to charge and availability of fast charging as the biggest problems. There are reasons to believe EV charging will continue to improve – in speed and availability – in the future.

“EV technology has continued to improve, prices keep coming down, and consumers have more choices than ever before,” said Johanna Neumann, Senior Director of the Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy at Environment America Research & Policy Center.
