Nissan has launched its new LEAF in Europe, with the LEAF 2.ZERO available to buy from today (Monday 2nd October). Unveiled at the Nissan Futures 3.0 event in Oslo, the second generation EV has an official range of 235 miles on a single charge.
With a 110 kW (148 bhp) electric motor, the new LEAF features semi-autonomous ProPILOT technology and greater levels of brake energy recuperation thanks to Nissan’s e-Pedal.
A 6.6kW on-board charger comes as standard on the launch edition 2.ZERO, as do 17-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, front fog lights, a leather interior trim, seats trimmed in recycled fabric, electric windows, automatic air conditioning, automatic headlights and wipers, and keyless entry and start.
A new infotainment system has been launched too with the NissanConnect EV including navigation, DAB radio, smartphone connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and voice command.
Nissan is also targeting business users with a new 22kW charger which can charge the LEAF in two hours – though the option is also available to personal buyers, and a new longer-range e-NV200 (below, bottom left and right) which was launched at the same time as the new LEAF. With the same size 40kWh battery as the new LEAF, the e-NV200 offers an additional 62 miles on a single charge over the older version.
A new official range of 174 miles – along with the fast charging option – is likely to appeal to a greater number of business users keen to go green, especially with clean air zones and London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone on the horizon. Like the existing version, the e-NV200 will be available as both a van and an MPV, with a five- or seven-seat option on offer.
The new e-NV200 will be available to order before the end of 2017, while the launch edition of the new LEAF is available to order now, priced from £26,490 including the £4,500 Plug-in Car Grant. Deliveries are due from the beginning of 2018.
