Whatever America’s official stance on the state of our climate it is, every other country’s thoughts are abundantly clear, seeing as how the Nissan Leaf is one of the best selling cars around the globe. And now, after an in-depth study, Kelley Blue Book has awarded the Nissan Leaf the 5-Year Cost to Own Award.
KBB.com based criteria for the award on projections over a five-year period considering depreciation, expected fuel costs, finance and insurance fees, maintenance and repair costs and state fees. The predicted fuel costs should be a no-brainer since the Leaf is an electric vehicle, but depreciation, maintenance and repair costs bode well for the reputation of future electric cars.
Even modern gasoline cars have moved further away from being at-home mechanic-friendly, but the complexity of modern electric vehicles can be turn off for a prospective buyer. Unless you have a degree in electrical engineering, regular maintenance necessitates trips to the dealer (which in the past has been closely associated with burning money in a trash can) are now often necessary just to keep a modern car going. It may not be the utopian car enthusiasts and DIYers dream about, but if you’re looking to save a few bucks, the Nissan Leaf seems like the best bet.
