New consumer research indicates buyers increasingly expect rooftop solar and factor it into property values

Homes with solar panels could sell for an average of £11,000 more than comparable properties without them, according to new consumer research.

The survey, carried out by energy switching group Switch Together, found that six in ten prospective buyers believe homes without solar panels should be discounted, with the average expected reduction at £11,000.

Younger buyers show the strongest preference, with respondents aged 25 to 34 putting the expected gap at £12,500.

The findings come as the government prepares to require rooftop solar on most new build homes from 2027 under the Future Homes Standard.
