The number of certified rooftop solar panel installations to have taken place across the UK this year has now surpassed the previous annual record set in 2011.
MCS, the certification body for smaller-scale clean energy installations, has confirmed that certified solar project installations in 2025 to date have now surpassed 203,125 – the previous record.
This means that home solar is thriving even without significant subsidies.
In total, 1.85 million buildings across the UK have now had certified solar installations.
MCS has attributed the record now set in 2025 to the appetite of housing developers to fit solar on new-build properties.
Since MCS started collecting data for new builds in October 2023, there have been 139,425 certified solar PV installations on properties of this type – accounting for 32% of total solar installations during this period. This proportion has risen to 35% in 2025.
