Estate Agents may have noticed a sizeable increase in the number of solar panels on homes coming to the market.

Solar panel installations across the UK have surged by more than 400% since before the energy crisis, new analysis reveals, as households face another rise in energy bills this winter.

The findings come as Ofgem confirmed that the energy price cap will rise by 4% from 1 October, taking the typical annual dual-fuel bill from £1,663 to £1,723 for a household paying by direct debit.

Analysis of Solar PV installation data by an energy consultancy called Glow Green found that annual installations increased from 53,044 in 2019 to 269,176 in 2025, representing a rise of around 407%.

Demand has remained strong in 2026, with 191,997 Solar PV installations already recorded between January and August. March saw the highest monthly total this year so far, with 28,853 installations, followed by 28,096 in June.

The leading areas for new installations are largely rural, coastal or semi-rural authorities, where homeowners may be more likely to have suitable roof space, owner-occupied properties and fewer installation barriers than those living in flats or densely built-up urban areas.
